As its name suggests, Oldtown, in the Westerosi region known as The Reach, is very old. Before Aegon I Targaryen arrived in the Blackwater Rush region of Westeros and built the sprawling city of King’s Landing around it, Oldtown was the biggest and most important settlement on the continent for millennia.

He and the king’s brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, were constantly at odds. No matter where King Viserys placed his brother, Otto convinced him to force Daemon out. When Daemon was given command of the City Watch, Otto worried that the prince would become another Maegor the Cruel if he took the throne. House Hightower’s next entry in Westerosi history was a marriage between Prince Maegor Targaryen (Aegon I’s son with sister wife Visenya) and Ceryse Hightower (Lord Manfred’s daughter).
Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) resembles Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) in many respects. Like Tywin, he is a widower Hand of the King, and just as Tywin used his daughter, Cersei (Lena Headey), Otto is using his daughter, Alicent (played as a youth by Emily Carey), as king bait. Lord Hobert Hightower is the head of House Hightower during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen. His younger brother, Ser Otto Hightower, serves as Hand of the King to Viserys.
While there, she became a constant companion to the older Jaehaerys. She spent so much time with Viserys’ predecessor that Jaehaerys began to mistake her for his own daughter, and it’s said that he passed away while Alicent was reading to him. Knowing that, it suddenly makes a lot more sense that Alicent’s father, Otto, so abruptly suggests that she spend time with Viserys in the House of the Dragon premiere.
